I have almost 20 years experience in the non-profit sector, including 13 years at the Country Director or Executive Director level. I am the founding director of offices in Mongolia and China (respectively), and have proven skills in starting and growing organizations. I am most comfortable workign with sustainable development and appropriate technology solutions, especially in a triple-bottom-line context, and have experience in health, education, agriculture, renewable energy, habitat, and at risk children.

Relevent Experience:

Leadership: Founded and managed two Country offices (Mongolia, China) for an international NGO, Articulated and Founded the Fractionation Development Center. Built a following and support base for all three organizations based on articulation and execution of a powerful and mobilizing vision.

Innovation: Articulated and introduced “Environmental Development” projects to ADRA and implemented them in Mongolia and China, specialized in conceptual out-of-box small projects that grew to be substantial and garnered support from donors/media; Won prestigious Maine “Next” award for innovations of FDC and its projects.

Project Design: Researched, articulated, proposed and achieved funding for projects in energy, health (clinical and preventive), agriculture, transportation, work-for-food, education, street children, water, and others. China project won global award (’05).

Resource Mobilization: Started both Country Offices and Fractionation Development Center (above) on a shoestring and rapidly mobilized significant project and operating resources from foundation, commercial, government, and private sources.

Technology: Expert in assessment of thermo-chemical biomass conversion systems, very knowledgeable in other biomass conversion systems. Accomplished researcher and adopter of diverse technologies, including solar energy, insulation, construction, plant adaptation.

Organization Building and Planning: Built three organizations in sequence. Accomplished at converting vision to strategic plan, and accomplished at converting strategic plan to action steps and managing the process. Experienced in management in a demanding growth environment, and experienced in selecting and mentoring employees and managers.

Diplomacy/Inter-organizational Relations: Negotiated or helped negotiate start-up Country Agreements in Mongolia and China, negotiated project agreements with ministries, initiated cooperative agreements with UNDP and others, maintained good relations with government and INGO/NGO community. Developed very effective and tangible support in Maine from the Office of the Governor, key legislative leaders, and the Members of the Maine Congressional delegation and their staff.
