Care for older people: Local volunteers are recruited to visit elderly people in retirement and nursing homes. Students, older people living with families and church congregations organise outings, entertainments, and personal services such as hairdressing. Cataract surgeries have also been sponsored for those in need.
Orphans: Operation Blessing supports the renovation of state orphanages, provides scholarships for orphans to attend school, and sponsors corrective surgeries for those with minor disabilities such as club foot, cleft lip and palate. In addition, a pilot programme was recently launched to give psychological support to AIDS orphans. Personal counselors have been assigned to around 20 orphans.
Education: Support has been given to renovate a school for rural-urban migrant children. A scholarship programme to help girl children from poor families to attend school.
Water supply: Almost 3,000 ‘dry wells’ (water cisterns) have been built in arid areas of Gansu and Qinghai to help rural families store precious rainwater for domestic and agricultural use.
Since 2003, Operation Blessing has treated 800 Children. They currently operate in four regions of China: Beijing, Xinjiang, Henan and Hubei. As of 2006, they were providing surgery for 50 children a month. In addition to this they run education projects that deal with schools for the children of migrant workers in Beijing. Operation Blessing also aids drought prone areas of China by building water cisterns.
