An International School for Communities

In the late 1980s, Future Generations assisted in the establishment and development of a management plan for Tibet's Qomolangma (Mt Everest) National Nature Preserve (QNNP)

Since then it has supported a number of social development and conservation projects in the Tibet Autonomous Region, including a programme to train traditional community leaders known as ‘pendebas’. Training is provided in primary health care, public health, nature protection and income generation, including eco-tourism. This project began in the QNNP, setting out to train at least one pendeba from every village in the Preserve. It is now expanding to other protected areas in Tibet.

Future Generations is also assisting in the development of the Lhasa Wetlands Education Center and the Tibet Conservation Training Center.

Through Future Generations Tibetan professionals may earn a Master’s Degree in applied conservation and community development, through a combination of applied field work and distance learning.
