Created in 1947, World Vision grew from its founder's commitment to sponsor a child in Xiamen, Fujian Province.
World Vision supports several rural integrated community development projects and separate education and water and sanitation projects. Usually working with county governments, it also establishes elected project village committees in the villages to promote participation. Another focus of the organisation's work is assistance to orphans and children with special needs, including a support to cover school fees and medical expenses. World Vision is also committed to emergency relief and rehabilitation.
