This foundation was established in Hong Kong in 1979 by the former Chairman of Jardine Matheson, Sir John Keswick, and his daughter, Maggie Keswick Jencks. The Keswick Foundation provides initial funding for human welfare services projects. The Keswick Foundation’s first project started at Beijing Anding Hospital. The project aimed to promote family support for treatment and rehabilitation of people with schizophrenia.

The Foundation is currently supporting three long-term projects on the mainland. For the last two years has supported the Guangdong Yang Ai Special Children Parent Club’s efforts to centralize their organization by appointing a National Coordinator, who is responsible for coordinating all affiliated parent clubs in Mainland China. They are also supporting a partnership between Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Peking University aims to train social work educators in Mainland China to be trainers. This will enable them to provide leadership for the future development of social work education in Mainland China. Also along the lines of social work training, they are supporting the China Association for Social Work Education. The project aims to train more professionals in the field of social work, enhance Chinese-oriented approaches of social work practice.
