Alpha Communities is an international, charitable organisation established in 1994 to support new beginnings for communities affected by poverty in Asia. Initially launched in Mongolia, Alpha Communities opened a programme in Liangshan and Aba Prefectures in Sichuan Province in 1997.
Alpha Communities in China works in small community development and relief projects predominantly with Yi, Tibetan and Qiang national minority peoples. The organisation focuses on long term development through education and educational support, restoration of degraded environment, renewable energy, micro loans, agriculture and income generation. Alpha builds long term relationships with local communities and government, working together to implement holistic transformational strategies.
Alpha Communities is primarily funded by private donations channelled through offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Holland and Germany. It also has several small grants from embassies based in Beijing.
