Project Trust was founded in 1967 as an educational charity on the Hebridean Isle of Coll in North West Scotland. Since then they have sent over 4,000 volunteers overseas. Project trust limits it’s volunteers to EU citizens between the ages of 17 and 19.5.

Project Trust’s involvement in China started in1987 when they started sending volunteers to Guangdong province. They have since expanded their capacity in China to include four provinces nationwide (Guangdong, Shandong, Gansu, and Xinjiang) with the majority of their volunteers now being placed in Xinjiang and Gansu. The volunteers are all in China as conversational English teachers whereas in Project Trust’s other countries of involvement they often teach more academic subjects or are involved in social care at orphanages etc.

Project Trust raises twenty percent of its yearly budget and asks that each volunteer be the responsible for individually raising an additional 4,190 pounds. The bulk of Project Trust’s budget is spent supporting their volunteers (recruiting, fundraising, training, ect).
