In 1999 Wild Aid registered in the United States as a non-profit organization. They are headquartered in San Francisco and have offices in New York, Bangkok, London, Washington and Vladivostok.

WildAid works to promote its goals and protect wild life through a number of methods. They work with and nurture local grassroots organizations by providing them with equipment and by aiding them in training. They provide education and plans for working towards a ecological balance. WildAid manages large-scale media publicity to expose the illegal smuggling of animal products for the purpose of wiping out this market. Among their goals is the expansion of the animal habitat to allow for future protection and regeneration.

Through their Active Conservation Awareness Program (ACAP) WildAid is working to address and reduce the market demand for endangered species products. ACAP works with communities, schools, governments and celebrities to achieve these ends. Presently in China the ACAP is working to enlarge projects, strengthen media coverage, encourage government policy and is working to develop relations with business groups, domestic and international wildlife organizations and the government education branch. Presently such international celebrities and sports stars as Cheng Long (Jackie Chan, the ACAP’s international representative),Li Ning, Zhang Ziyi, Ai An, Liang Chaowei, Liu Huan, Liang Zichiong are working with radio and tv programs to bring encourage individual and government officials to join in the protection of wild life and related activities.

In June of 2004 WildAid established an office in Beijing while simultaneously organizing meetings to gain media to educate and gain exposure. In September 2004 in cooperation with the Chinese wildlife protection agency launched the second round “green” culinary commendations. In September 2004 twelve capital university groups got together to sponsor the “Capital Environmental Education Week”. The main contest in the event was an environmental protection film contest. Also a “Wildlife Protection Activity” was held to disseminate environmental protection information to students. With the cooperation of the Chinese Environmental Protection Agency, ACAP has been able to organize the “Chinese Natural Resources Protection Award.” Next year the first 6 prizewinners will be reported.

Wild Aid’s funding comes from private foundations and endowments earmarked for wildlife protection. WildAid and the David Shepherd Conservation Foundation fund ACAP
