This Christian feminist organization was established in 1988. It works to promote gender equality both within the church and in society at large. As well as organizing lectures, seminars, and studies of feminist theology, the Council provides services for women in Hong Kong, including counseling vocational training (in areas such as computer skills and business management).
The Council first visited the mainland in December 1994, when it made contact with Christian and women’s groups, including the Women’s Federation and the YMCA. Study tours and exchanges have continued since that time, with counterparts in Shanghai and the Xining (Qinghai) Theological Seminary.
In 2002, the Council joined with other Christian organizations to host an international conference on ‘Feminist Theology in Chinese Contexts’ and it was one of the hosts of the 5th East Asian Women’s Forum, which took place in Hong Kong in December 2003.
