This California based environmental advocacy organisation was established nearly twenty years ago, and began by supporting grassroots environmental organisations working to protect the Siberia taiga and the Russian Far East.

In China Pacific Environment provides direct support to activists who are spearheading the environmental movement. It manages a grant-making programme for the Global Greengrants Fund (see separate entry) that currently supports around 30 Chinese NGOs working on habitat and watershed protection, illegal logging, marine conservation, and land use issues.

Pacific Environment also promotes capacity building and networking among Chinese environmental NGOs. In 2002 it organised one of the largest NGO conferences on marine conservation in Chinese history, and in 2004 it created a ‘Save China’s Seas’ network.

Pacific Environment is funded by grants from foundations and donations from individual supporters.
